The First Agricultural Leaders’ Summit Successfully Concludes in Bolivia, Bringing Together Key Actors from the Agro-industrial Sector

  • Carlos Eduardo Mesa M., a graduate in Agronomy from Zamorano, and with a master's in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Florida. He is the founder of PREMEX, Colombia, a technology company focused on the development and commercialization of ingredients for animal nutrition. He is also an active dressage rider and livestock breeder.
  • Jorge Raúl Rivera, Vice President of J. Raul Rivera S.A. de C.V. and founder of CAFEINA Specialty Coffee Bar in El Salvador. With a master’s in applied economics from Louisiana State University, he shared his experience in economic analysis and leadership in the agro-industrial sector.
  • Anabel Gallardo, General Manager of Agropecuaria El Carreto and founder of Avícola Yegüare, with over 28 years of experience in the agricultural sector. Gallardo, who also chairs the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise since March 2024, shared her vision on business sustainability and her experience as a woman leader in the agroindustry.
  • José Miguel Cordero, former Undersecretary of Agriculture and Vice Minister in the Dominican Republic, who has also led key projects in public health and rural development internationally. His extensive experience in both the public and private sectors provided valuable insights to the attendees.
  • Arnaldo Burgos, founder of Dairy Nutrition Services, Inc. in the United States, a company that advises dairy cooperatives in various countries. With a master’s in animal science, Burgos shared his expertise in dairy nutrition and management within the global dairy industry.
  • Willy Tanaka, with 20 years of experience in all aspects of agribusiness, having worked for renowned companies such as Bayer Cropscience, Bunge, and Alicorp. He provided his perspective on the development of agribusiness internationally.
  • Miguel Izaguirre, Director of Agricultural Operations at Florida Crystals, who shared his experience in food production and strategic planning at one of the largest companies in the sector in the United States.

The summit highlighted the relevance of topics such as innovation in agricultural production, business leadership in the agroindustrial sector, and strategies for addressing the challenges of sustainability and globalization that agriculture faces in Latin America and around the world. Participants had the opportunity to learn about success stories, explore new technologies, and build collaborative networks to promote a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural development.

Zamorano and IDB Lab sign agreement to create AgroHub, an innovation and agrifood entrepreneurship platform in Central America

The Pan-American Agricultural School Zamorano and IDB Lab, the innovation division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), have signed a significant agreement to establish AgroHub: Innovation and Agrifood Entrepreneurship. This groundbreaking project aims to transform the agrifood ecosystem in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, with a special focus on small-scale farmers, sustainability, and climate resilience.
